Inside Wrexham's promotion party - Rob McElhenney's boozing and star's A&E trip (2025)

Wrexham secured an incredible third successive promotion from League One to the Championship on Saturday, and the scenes from the Welsh town were like nothing else

Wrexham celebrations were in full swing after their stunning 3-0 win against Charlton on Saturday, with fans storming the pitch and hoisting players into the air. Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were gobsmacked in their executive box as they witnessed their club clinch a remarkable third consecutive promotion, this time from League One to the Championship.

Manager Phil Parkinson was seen planting a kiss on his medal, while Reynolds and McElhenney joined in the festivities, dousing CEO Michael Williamson in red Gatorade in homage to Super Bowl customs.

The revelry for the squad and coaches began in the dressing room, with goalscorer Ollie Rathbone showing off his dance moves on a table. The party then moved to the Racecourse Ground's function rooms, where players, families, and the star-studded owners celebrated with Wrexham Lager, a brand recently acquired by the celebrity duo.

Out on High Street, the fans kept the party alive, with local shops enjoying brisk sales and the night sky tinged with the glow of red flares.

The air was filled with chants of "Back to back to back, ole ole" as one fan climbed a lamppost and others cheered from the Midland pub windows, all under the watchful eyes of a few anxious police officers.

The celebrations were all in good spirits, with the players quickly moving from the stadium to the bustling bars and pubs around the city. The Ironworks bar was a popular spot for most of the team.

Striker Ollie Palmer took on the role of bartender, serving pints to eager fans as the party continued late into the night. Over at the Golden Lion pub, karaoke songs were creatively altered to celebrate the promotion heroes.

Defender Max Cleworth and wing-back Ryan Barnett were seen looking a bit worse for wear in McDonald's in the early hours of Sunday. Despite their state, they managed to attend the EFL Awards later that day to receive their awards after being named in the League One Team of the Season.

Wrexham's community director Humphrey Ker may have regretted his decision to run the Manchester Marathon the following day, but he persevered and raised significant funds for the Wrexham Miner's Project charity.

He was welcomed at the finish line by McElhenney, who confessed to having a "bit of a headache" after the previous night's festivities. As per tradition, the Wrexham players gathered for a meal on Sunday afternoon.

More drinks were served at the Fat Boar restaurant, where there were some risque chants, a shirtless George Dobson, and even rumours that one of the team's stars ended up in A&E after cutting his hand on some glass.

While his team-mates were celebrating promotion, star forward Paul Mullin was seen enjoying family time with a spot of karaoke in Liverpool, belting out Jamie Webster's 'Weekend in Paradise'. As clips circulated online, fans couldn't help but speculate about his future at the club, given his limited game time in League One this season.

Right now, though, such concerns are taking a back seat as Wrexham and their supporters bask in the glory of their ascent to the second tier for the first time in four decades.

The triumph was encapsulated by Reynolds on Instagram, where he captured the jubilation with a fitting tribute, saying: "Somebody said the Welsh have the 'heart of a poet and the fist of a fighter.' That's what I love about this place. I wish the whole world could visit Wrexham. Diolch."
