Product details:

EcoFoil "Big 8" HVAC Duct Insulation Wrap (R-8) is specifically designed to reduce radiant heat gain and loss in residential and commercial duct applications. This insulation wrap also helps control condensation by providing an airtight thermal break around the HVAC ducting. Important - All seams must be taped so the insulation acts as a vapor barrier. We recommend taping the seams of the HVAC duct insulation with EcoFoil Premium High Tack HVAC Tape, so the product acts as one continuous sheet.

"Big 8"duct insulation is constructed of a triple layer of polyethylene single bubble insulation, with each layer of single bubble insulation bonded to two radiant barrier metalized sheets. The insulation is (9/16" to 5/8") thick with a large single bubble insulation in the center, sandwiched by two thin layers of single bubble insulation. Each roll of insulation duct wrap includes two rolls of spacer strips. In order to achieve the R-8 value the spacer strips must be used and placed every 2' on the ducting. This provides an additional air chamber for the insulation. When combined with the spacer strips the finished thickness is 11/16" to 3/4" thick.

EcoFoil R-8 HVAC Duct Insulation Wrap is meant to be used around any duct work in your home or building. This includes round, rectangular or square ducting. It is NOT rated for exterior use. For installation or technical questions, please call our product specialists at (888) 349-3645 or reference our ductwork insulation page.

R-8 Duct Wrap

Easy to cut and size. Duct tape is a bit tricky to cut and takes a little practice. Overall much easier to use in a crawl space than fiberglass. I learned to wrap the ductwork a little loose to leave more room for air space. Order a little more tape than you think you need. Great customer service!!!

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the R-value of this product?

When installed properly, this product has an R-value of 8. Make sure to tape all seams with Premium High Tack HVAC Tape, and use spacer strips (included) to provide an air space between the ductwork and the insulation wrap. You can learn more about installing HVAC Ductwork Insulation here.

Does this product meet code requirements?

Yes, as long as the seams are taped and spacer strips (included) are used. As a bonus, it's stamped and certified with an inspector-friendly code strip attached directly to the material which makes for quick approval.

Are special tools required to install this product?

No. This product is cut easily with scissors or a sharp utility knife. Please note: all seams must be taped to prevent passage of air. Depending on the height of your duct, a step ladder may also come in handy. You can learn more about installing HVAC Ductwork Insulation here.

What does the spacer strip do?

The included spacer strips provide an extra air chamber between the ductwork and the radiant barrier. This reduces contact between the surfaces, preventing heat gain/loss and reducing buildup of condensation.

Can I install this product outdoors?

This product is not rated for exterior use. We do not recommend installing this product in outdoor applications.

    FAQs

How much insulation do I need for ductwork? ›

Rigid fiber board offers an R-value of R-4 for every inch of thickness. Ducts running through heated spaces are only exposed to room temperature air, so heat conduction isn't as much of an issue. Still, at least R-2 or a half-inch of ductwork insulation should be installed to prevent condensation on the ductwork walls.

Does duct wrap insulation work? ›

While insulating basem*nt ductwork will, in fact, reduce energy loss from your ducts, thereby lowering the time your system has to run to properly cool or heat your house, it will also tend to make your basem*nt cooler.

How do you calculate duct insulation? ›

    1. General Formula to Calculate Minimum Insulation Thickness Required to Prevent Condensation,t= k * R{(T1 - T2)/ (T3 - T1)} ,
    2. Where,
    3. t = Insulation thickness (in)
    4. k = Thermal conductivity.
    5. R = Surface temperature resistance.
    6. T1 = Dew point temperature (°F)
    7. T2 = Operating temperature (°F)

What is the best R value for ductwork? ›

Typically R-4 to R-8 is appropriate for the ducts within the insulated part of your home. No insulation up to an R-4 value will work if you have any ducts in an uninsulated or unfinished basem*nt.

What is the standard for duct insulation? ›

“Supply and return air ducts and plenums shall be insulated with a minimum of R-6 insulation where located in unconditioned spaces and where located outside the building with a minimum of R-8 insulation in climate zones 1-4 and a minimum of R-12 insulation in climate zones 5-8.

Can you double wrap duct insulation? ›

Double layer duct wrap insulation: Installers could use one layer of unfaced duct wrap to achieve an R-10, and then add a second layer of faced, 3” R-8 duct wrap.

Is insulated ducting worth it? ›

    Decreased Utility Bills

When you consider your HVAC system is the single-largest appliance in your home that uses the most energy, you could reduce your utility bills substantially over time. The longer you own your home with efficient, insulated ductwork, the more money you can save.

    What is duct calculator? ›

A Ductulator helps you properly size your ducts, estimate air loss, find the round or rectangular duct equivalent, and determine velocity. It can prevent some costly errors and is great for engineers as well as field technicians.

What is the formula for calculating insulation? ›

The rule for calculating square metres of insulation is incredibly straightforward and involves physically measuring the length and width of the given surface. You multiply these two numbers together, and the result tells you how many square metres of insulation you need.
